A score of 6 or less suggests severe dementia.

Features suggestive of multi-infarct dementia include a history of TIA , hypertension , focal neurological signs or symptoms or fluctuations in the level of functioning.

Dysphasic and apraxic erors may occur in both alzheimer-type dementia and multi-infarct dementia.
